A Week Away from Home

The kids and I have just got back from a week in our own patch of paradise...
My parents take us down to a delightful place called Smiths Beach, Yallingup for a week in January... this was our second time.
This is the view out of our balcony.. green (kangaroo poop littered) grass, a BBQ, some bush, and that ocean. The view doesn't change, and you never get sick of staring at it!
It's about 3 1/2 hours drive south of my place. It was a nice drive, with a stop for lunch in Busselton.
No pets are allowed, and so Moxie went to a friend of mine... Paul stayed home, but works such long hours, we didn't think it was fair on the dog. She hasn't been left home alone all day before, and to do it for a whole week... well, I didn't want to!
My friend (Kara) has 2 boys, and a pup of her own. Needless to say, our Moxie pup has barely been awake since we got her home.. she is EXHAUSTED from her week of constant play!

Here is my beautiful girl and handsome boy...silly smiles and all.

Pre dinner nibbles anyone?

Over the balcony, there is no gate to get down onto the grass... this is how the kids get over that little impediment.
 Chewing on mango seeds.
 Water gun fights!!!
Molly helping her Poppie in the kitchen.
The sun was in the wrong direction, but our first kangaroo hunt was successful!!

Grumpy lad on our first beach trip. The water was pretty chilly, and he didn't want to boogy board!
Didn't last long though... a foot race with Poppie is a cure for almost anything!

 Quiet morning relax!
Molly's first taste of the water with her Grandy and Poppie.
 Flying the kite
Crazy lads at a fun centre
Molly went on this train 3 times!

 Show off girl!
two doors up were 2 boys similar in age to Jasper. They hung out a lot, getting into innocent mischief and having lots of fun!
Molly and her seaweed. She didn't like going in the water (which was a good thing with all the shark sightings in the area), but loved playing on the sand, digging holes, getting buried in the sand, building sandcastles...
 Play time with the babes.

Can't you tell, Molly HATED this?!
 My surfer boy.

Popcorn and juice box as a post-nap snack, anyone?
Jasper with his mates, Ryan and Cooper (with Molly) in their hideout they made in the bush.
These boots aren't too big for me!!
Molly in her Poppie's hiking boots.
Searching for kangaroos, bunnies and bugs.

Ice cream became a very serious business for the week we were away...

Just in case you forgot what the view was like...

Returning from another successful kangaroo hunt.

 Wrestle time before bed
Some of the rocks at Canal Rocks. Quite interesting to read about, magnificent in person!

Jasper getting a lesson in draughts...
 Aussie style...
Molly trying on her Grandy's glasses

More serious icecream business... Molly took to punching a hole in the cone to see if there was a suprise on there or not!!
My dad went fishing one evening, and came home with this little beauty! A delicious whiting.
He took Jasper fishing twice, in the mornings... 4.30am! No fish were caught then.
 Australia Day sparklers!

What happened to a tired little girl when she realised the sparklers were finished, and she couldn't hold one on her own... she had to let Poppie help her every time.

Now we're back home, and the sand is all washed away, the clothes are drying outside, and life is back to how it was a week ago!

One more week of school vacation, then back to school time for Jasper.
It scares me that this time next year, I'll be getting both of them off to school.

I'd rather not send either of them!

Thanks for reading.
