Quarterly Blood Results - January 2013

January always sees us trekking to the Children's Hospital for Jasper's quarterly blood counts.
It is just a thumb prick, and Jasper is an old hat at those now!

His blood counts were pretty good. Our usual doctor was on annual leave, but we saw a doctor who has done one of Jasper's bone marrow aspirations before, and he remembered us.

Jasper has grown quite nicely... In the last 12 months, he has grown 17.5cm (6.9 inches). He has also put on 6.7kg (14lb 12oz).
I always look at think he has never put on weight, but looking over 12 months worth of data, he is going great guns!

On the Australian height/weight tracking charts, Jasper is sitting on the 3rd percentile for weight, and just above the 10th percentile for height.

Blood numbers are as follows... (the "normal" range is in brackets)

White Blood Cells (4.5-14.5) - he was 4.5, and went to 4.7
Haemaglobin (115-155) - he was 130 and went to 129
Platelets (150-400) - he was 122 and went to 124
Red Cells (4.0-6.0) he went from 3.49 to 3.52
MCV (75-92) he went from 103 to 104
Neutrophils (1.5 - 8.0) he went from 1.39 to 1.52
Lymphocytes (1.5 - 7.0) not sure what they were in October,  but they are now 2.56.

So overall, not much change.
The MCV number can indicate the stress the marrow is under. There has been a slow and steady raise in this figure, but we are far from panic stations yet!
The doctor was pretty happy with Jasper's counts, and so was I!

He has been pretty healthy and bounces back quick if there is a bug that tries to get hold of him.

I know I haven't updated for a while, but I do have a Christmas update to do... and will get to it soon!

Thanks for reading, please leave a message for Jasper.. he loves it!!

Brooke
